The non-profit Central Music Festival Society was formed in 2004 to produce an annual outdoor music festival in the Red Deer area in August. We held our First Annual Central Music Festival on August 18, 2007. The 2009 Festival takes place on August 14 and 15.
Our Mission:
To present a family-oriented, annual weekend of outdoor entertainment and activities
To present a wide range of musical styles performed by the finest local, regional, national, and international performers available
To develop and nurture educational opportunities for musicians through mentoring activities such as composition, arrangement, and songwriting workshops
To present the Kid’s Korner at the festival featuring children’s activities, education, and entertainment
To provide opportunities and space for local musicians, artists, and craftspeople to display their talents at the Festival and at other opportunities throughout the year
To encourage the development of regional cultural volunteer initiatives
To encourage environmental responsibility
To present concerts at other times during the year in order to foster a wider appreciation of musical genres and the cultures they represent
To acquire and develop a permanent festival site to ensure the viability and growth of an annual outdoor music festival in The Red Deer area
A successful annual Festival enriches the regional cultural scene, stimulates the local economy, and enhances Central Alberta’s reputation as a tourist destination.

Talent Contest
The Central Music Festival Society is holding a talent contest for local musicians. The winner will earn a paid, half hour Mainstage set at the third annual Central Music Festival that takes place August 14 & 15 this year. All finalists and semi-finalists will receive VIP Weekend Passes to the 2009 Central Music Festival.
All submissions will be judged by an independent panel of experienced music jurors. Twelve acts will be selected for the live semi-finals to be held at The Hub in downtown Red Deer on May 22. Six finalists will compete for the grand prize on May 29 at The Elks Lodge.
Guidelines
We are looking for original material that can be performed live on stage by Central Albertans. Submissions will be judged on originality, content, and quality of performance. For this contest, Central Alberta is defined as the geographical area that extends from the BC to Saskatchewan borders, bounded on the north and including the city of Wetaskiwin, and on the south and including the town of Drumheller.
Performances can be in any configuration from solo to ensembles with no more than 6 members. The contest is open to all genres of music, and all ages of performers. Anyone entering under the age of 18 must have parental consent.
Submissions will be accepted in the following format only - a compact disc containing a minimum of 2 performances. All applicants must include their name, address, phone number, and email address with their musical submission.
A non-refundable application fee of $10.00 (cash or cheque) must accompany all submissions. Please note that Central Music Festival Society will not return any material submitted for this contest.
